Foggy Glasses?

Postby Grousie on Sat Nov 28, 2009 1:40 am

Does anyone else have a problem with your safety glasses fogging up? If I'm wearing a shemagh or a balaclava I have a problem with my safety/ballistic glasses fogging up...

any help here? cuz shooting when you can't see shit is a bad idea... :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

Are the ones you're wearing a wrap around style?
They are NOTORIOUS for fogging up.
If so, you need a vented one.

Examples of what I mean...

Wrap around:

Vented- meaning the lens and stem are spaced apart, but still side shielded enough to meet ANSI (OSHA):

Other than that, an anti-fog lens will be the way to go, but that's getting into more $$.

I was actually thinking something like this;

but I've never used any of them except for scuba diving 30 years ago...maybe I'll just run some experiments.

MAT all of the glasses you show are technically "wrap around" style glasses. Any eye ware that has lenses that extend or wrap around the sides of the head to protect the corner of the eyes are considered wrap around. the temples or stems as you call them, really dont dictate the style of the glasses per se, its all in the lens. it is possible to have shields mounted to the temple as the old school ski shades and safety glasses were, but this is why wrap around lenses were invented. you dont need the side shields. now ya know

as far as fogging, it is always a challenge. anti fog solutions help, but not much. they wipe right off and dont last. they are typically used in a scuba mask where you cant wipe it off easily. in cold weather a two layer lens system is used. ski goggles and snowmobile goggles have tow lenses separated by an air space like a window in your home. this is the best solution until you look at goggles that have actual defroster fans in them.

make sure your glasses dont rest against your forehead unless there is a venting system at the top of the lens or frame. the heat and steam needs to go up and out. i personally like tactical speedo goggles myself, filled with water. they never fog

True. I should have said vented vs. solid regarding the sides.
Before I got prescription glasses to shoot with, I pretty much preferred the vented ones because of the fog issue.
Before I logged back in here, I happened to catch up with my nephew online for a little bit.
I asked him about wearing glasses with those scarf dealies and he said that a lot of the guys there have Sand Vipers that they really like.
No fog, foam backing, and when crap is kicked up in the air (sand and whatnot) it can't blow in from sides, top, or bottom.
I forgot about those.
When I worked in a safety store quite some time back, a lot of bikers would come in and get those.
Personally, I think they look a little goofy, but hey...I'm not telling them that! :p
